・ What is a mountain castle ・ ・ ・ As the name suggests, a mountain castle is a castle built on a strategic point in the mountains. They were built in various places during the period of the Northern and Southern Dynasties and the Warring States Period, as battles raged. The natural mountains were cut, dug, and heaped up to create moats, earthen mounds （, defensive berms ）, and flat areas ）, which were divided into wards （ and berms , to fortify defenses. Even though no buildings remain, the remains of moats and earthen mounds still remain. The mountain castle is a ruin that conveys the tense situation of the Warring States period to the present.
