Monthly SDGs movie theater. “Valentine Ikki (Stand up on Valentine’s Day)”
第7回の1月は日本のバレンタイン文化であるアクションを起こした女の子たちを追ったドキュメンタリー映画「バレンタイン一揆」を上映します。In January, we will screen the documentary film "Valentine Ikki", which follows the Japanese girls who have taken action in Japanese Valentine's culture.

「ガーナで児童労働の問題を知った、日本の普通の女の子３人は、動き出す。バレンタインに、チョコレートを通して、世界の問題について考えること。フェアトレードでつくられたチョコレートをちゃんと買うこと。それこそが、バレンタインにすべき、大切なことなんだ、と。そして、みんなでフェアトレードのチョコレートを買う「バレンタイン一揆」というイベントを企画。2月11日、「バレンタイン一揆」当日、彼女たちの想いはみんなに届いたのか・・・。」(ユナイテッドピープルより)
"Three ordinary Japanese girls who learned about child laboring in Ghana set out to take action. Thinking about world problems through chocolate on Valentine's Day, Buying fair trade chocolates. That's what we should do on Valentine's Day, and it's important. And then, they plan an event called "Valentine's Ikki(Rebellion)" where everyone buys fair-trade chocolates. 10年以上前、南房総地区周辺の中学校の英語の教科書にフェアトレードを扱った学習内容が採用されました。以降、多くの生徒たちはそれを学び、大人になっています。この映画に登場する女の子たちもその世代にあたります。世界とつながるわたしたちの日々の何気ない行動。消費者として知ること、選択をすることがいかに大切か、この映画は教えてくれます。

More than 10 years ago, a topic dealing with fair trade chocolate was adopted in an English textbook for junior high schools in the Minamiboso area. Since then, many students have learned it and become adults. The girls in this movie also belong to that generation. This movie teaches us how important it is to know and make choices as a consumer because our daily choices and actions connected to the world.
Before Valentine's Day, why don't you think about chocolates from a different perspective?
