This exhibition introduces works focusing on Yukio Fukasawa's encounter with Mexico, which was a turning point in his life as a copperplate engraver.
Fukasawa began making copperplate prints in 1954. His early works were mostly small pieces with a delicate touch based on monochrome, but an encounter with Mexico, where he visited in 1963 to teach copperplate printing, had a great impact on him. From there, the colors became more vivid, the plates became larger, and the method of boldly cutting out copper plates was added, resulting in a shift to a more powerful style. This exhibition will feature 20 works produced in 1965 ~ 1972.
