Special Exhibition: A Gaze at Nara ~ From Baraida to Mochida ~

On view through December 10 ( Sun ) !
Wooden letters excavated from the former capital Fujiwara-kyo ・ Heijo-kyo, contain descriptions of the province of Kamihara. What do the ink stains such as "Maraida Hyouei" and "Mouta ( da ) cloth" tell us?
The wave of temple building that began with the arrival of Buddhism came to Joso as well, including the abandoned Joso Daiji temple built in the late 7th century. The idea of a Buddhist state of tranquility and protection eventually led to the construction of kokubun monasteries and kokubun nunneries, and temples and teachings in various regions, which proceeded in parallel, eventually spread to their respective villages. This section introduces the history of Kisarazu and Kamihara from the Asuka period.
